The 2025 Subaru Crosstrek small SUV has received updated traffic sign recognition technology, allowing for a five-star ANCAP result, while hybrid variants have gained a petrol particulate filter.
Subaru Crosstrek models built from April 2025 and on sale from this month are the first with revisions to its traffic sign recognition, which is now capable of detecting Stop, Give Way and No Enter signs, in addition to existing speed-sign detection.
"There has been an update to the EyeSight system with some additional hardware to update the speed sign recognition system as well as the new traffic sign recognition which now helps detect traffic signs such as No Entry, Give Way and Stop signs," a Subaru Australia spokesperson said.
ANCAP has confirmed Model Year 2025 versions of the Crosstrek have received a five-star safety rating, while earlier models – which lack the updated traffic sign recognition system – built between 2023 and March 2025 will remain 'unrated'.
The related Subaru Impreza hatchback has also received the traffic sign recognition updates, achieving a five-star ANCAP safety rating for models built from April 2025 onwards.
For 2025, the Crosstrek Hybrid L and Hybrid S have gained a petrol particulate filter "to meet the latest Euro 6e emissions standard," the spokesperson added.
"A Gasoline Particulate Filter (GPF) has been introduced to Crosstrek Hybrid models. The GPF is the latest technology in reducing tailpipe emissions by capturing fine particulate matter from the exhaust."
Combined fuel consumption for the Crosstrek Hybrid remains rated at 6.5L/100km – compared to 3.9L/100km for a Hyundai Kona Hybrid or 4.2L/100km for a Toyota Corolla Cross – and CO2 emissions of 147g/km, down from 7.2L/100km and 165g/km for non-hybrid grades.
Power in Crosstrek Hybrid grades has been cut from 110kW/196Nm to 100kW/182Nm, while there are no changes to the 115kW/196Nm 2.0-litre boxer four in non-hybrid versions.
"As a result of this update, there has been a minor adjustment to the [hybrid] vehicle’s power and torque outputs to ensure optimal performance and compliance."
The 2025 Subaru Crosstrek small SUV is on sale now.
