Three versions of the MG U9 ute will be sold in Australia, with prices ranging from $55,000 to $65,000, but further details are being withheld.
MG Australia has locked in a three-variant line-up for its anticipated U9 dual-cab ute, with pricing falling between $55,000 and $65,000.
The brand is yet to confirm exact pricing – or whether these figures are before on-road costs or drive-away – for its first ute, but the three variants will be known as Explore, Explore X, and Explore Pro.
Crucially, the $55,000 starting price positions the MG U9 upmarket of its twin-under-the-skin, the LDV Terron 9, that launched earlier this year from $53,674 drive-away.
Both models share a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, but the MG – according to certification documents – tuned to 160kW, while the LDV has a 164kW output.
At $65,000, the flagship U9 will be the most expensive Chinese ute without electrification in Australia, being more expensive than the GWM Cannon Alpha, Foton Tunland, and JAC T9.
MG Australia is also yet to confirm any specification across the three U9 grades, but points to its MultiFold rear seat as a feature that allows "a customisable interior cabin layout, enhancing overall utility and versatility".
U9 Explore Pro buyers will also have the option of a retractable rear cabin window, which MG calls Smart Hatch, but pricing and availability on other grades is still unknown.
MG Australia will reveal more details on the U9 closer to its on-sale date in the coming months.
