Genesis has updated its mid-size electric SUV with a longer range, tweaked styling, and new features such as wireless Apple CarPlay and matrix headlights – albeit at a cost.
The 2025 Genesis Electrified GV70 – the electric version of the Hyundai offshoot's BMW X3 competitor – has arrived in Australia with a longer range, new styling and a $6942 price rise.
It costs $32,600 more than a top-of-the-range petrol V6 Genesis GV70, but lines up with rivals such as the Audi SQ6 e-tron ($151,400 plus on-road costs) and larger BMW iX xDrive 45 ($142,900).
Most of the updates mirror the petrol GV70, including revised styling and a 27-inch OLED screen stretching across the dashboard, which incorporates the instrument cluster and multimedia display.
The electric model also gains a new battery pack – 84kWh, up from 77.4kWh – which increases the claimed WLTP driving range from 445km to 462km.
A single model grade is offered, the Signature Performance, with dual motors developing up to 360kW/700Nm in 'boost' mode, or 320kW in normal driving, for 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds.
It runs at 800 volts, for a claimed 10 to 80 per cent recharge time in 19 minutes on a 350kW DC fast charger – though the peak charging power is understood to be lower.
Styling changes include new front and rear bumpers, matrix LED headlights, a new 20-inch wheel design, revised rear spoiler, and updated colour palette.
Inside, a 27-inch widescreen replaces a 14.5-inch centre and 12.3-inch instrument display, running new software with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected services, and over-the-air updates.
New features include UV-C sterilisation for the wireless phone charger, memory for the front passenger seat, and keyless entry for the rear doors.
Safety improvements include updated autonomous emergency braking software with junction crossing support, sat-nav map integration for the adaptive cruise control, and side parking sensors.
The Remote Smart Parking Assist system can now pull the vehicle into or out of perpendicular, parallel and diagonal spaces, with the driver standing next to the car holding the key fob.
Highway Driving Assist 2 is also new, capable of assisted lane changes activated on compatible roads by a flick of the indicator stalk.
The 2025 Genesis Electrified GV70 is available to order now. Matte paint is the only option, for an extra $2000.
