The fault could see water impact the car's electrical system, causing the head and tail lamps to fail, according to the recall notice.
Ford has recalled 7222 examples of its 2022-2025 Ford Mustang, citing a potential fault with the car's lighting system.
The affected vehicles are stamped as 2022 to 2025 models, but may have been sold at a later date.
The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: "Due to a manufacturing defect, the Body Control Module (BCM) may be susceptible to water ingress. As a result, the front and rear side marker lamps, taillamps, and license plate lamps may not operate as intended.
"Lighting features not operating as intended may reduce the driver’s visibility. Additionally, other road users may be unable to identify the vehicle in dark conditions increasing the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users."
A full list of vehicle identification numbers for the 7222 vehicles involved in the recall can be found here.
Ford Australia advises that "owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Ford Motor Company Australia asking them to schedule an appointment with their local dealership to have the work carried out, free of charge."
