The 2025 Chery Tiggo 4 Hybrid will be the most affordable hybrid SUV – and one of the cheapest hybrids of any kind – when it goes on sale imminently.

Prices announced today will see the entry-level Tiggo 4 Hybrid Urban start from $29,990 drive-away, and the flagship Ultimate from $34,990 drive-away.

They are $6000 and $8000 dearer, respectively, than equivalent petrol-only variants.

It is not the cheapest ‘full hybrid’ on sale outright, which remains the MG 3 Hybrid+ Excite, currently listed for $27,990 drive-away – though this is marketed as an End of Financial Year offer, rather than a permanent price.

A Suzuki Swift Hybrid manual is available for $24,490 drive-away in most of Australia, but it is a ‘mild hybrid’ unable to power its wheels on electricity alone, rather than a true hybrid like the Chery, MGs and Toyota.

Limited details of the Tiggo 4 Hybrid have been announced thus far, with more information promised in the coming weeks.

It has been confirmed with lab-tested fuel consumption of 5.4 litres per 100 kilometres, down from the petrol-only grade’s 7.4L/100km.

It is thanks to a circa-70kW 1.5-litre non-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine combined with a 150kW electric motor, 1.83kWh battery pack, and front-wheel drive.

Standard feature lists are yet to be confirmed, but the varying price gap compared to the petrol-only Tiggo 4 suggests the base Urban hybrid may not be as well equipped as its regular counterpart, to keep the price down.

More details are due closer to the 2025 Chery Tiggo 4 Hybrid’s local arrival next month.
