The brands with the longest electric car battery warranties in 2025

Over the past couple of years, electric vehicles have slowly become a permanent fixture on Australian roads. While a vast majority of new car buyers were hesitant in making the full electric transition, Australians are coming around.

Between 2023 and 2024, 161,829 EVs found new homes, and in 2025, the uptick in new battery-powered cars shows no signs of slowing down.

Still, electric powertrains are the newest kid on the automotive block, and though there’s enough data to estimate how long an electric vehicle battery can sustain peak capacity, range loss is often cited as a key consumer barrier.

In response to consumer concerns, various car makers are offering competitive battery warranties. To lend a helping hand, Drive has compiled a list of the car brands with the longest electric vehicle battery warranties in Australia.

Disclaimer: For this list, Drive considers a long electric vehicle battery warranty as any period that exceeds the industry standard eight-year/160,000km mark. Prices listed in this story are accurate as of June 17, 2025 and can be subject to change.

Which brands have the longest electric vehicle battery warranties in 2025?

In August 2024, MG usurped Mitsubishi’s crown for the longest warranty coverage in Australia, with the former introducing a 10-year/250,000km (whichever comes first) warranty period, which includes EV batteries.

MG states the warranty period applies to all electric vehicles purchased and used privately. The car maker said models that are used commercially, like ubers and food couriers, are restricted to a seven-year/160,000km battery warranty period.

Unlike Mitsubishi, MG’s warranty coverage doesn’t require owners to service their vehicles through its dealer network.

It’s been a busy month for MG, with the car maker launching its luxury EV subsidiary dubbed ‘IM presented by MG Motor’ in June 2025.

Short for ‘Intelligence in Motion’, the IM range starts with the IM5 electric sedan and IM6 SUV. The IM electric line-up opens at the IM5 and IM6 Premium 75kWh rear-wheel-drive variants, with both models currently priced from $60,990 drive-away.

The IM presented by MG Motor range tops out at the flagship IM5 and IM6 Performance variants, which currently comes with a $80,990 drive-away sticker.

Geely – eight years/unlimited km

Geely’s entrance into Australia’s new car market proves the Chinese marque is looking to compete with everyone right out of the gate. Geely offers an eight-year/unlimited km warranty for its debut model in the EX5 mid-sized electric SUV.

While initial reports suggest the Geely EX5 could retail around the $50,000 mark like other Chinese rivals in the Leapmotor C10 (from $45,888) and the BYD Sealion 7 (from $54,990), Geely shocked the market by introducing the $40,990 entry price for the EX5, , making it the most affordable mid-sized SUV in Australia.

To attract more customers, Geely is currently offering an EOFY bonus on the EX5 electric SUV. The ‘Green light’ offer includes a $2000 trade-in bonus, a free home charging cable and the choice of either a $2000 gift card or complimentary five-year servicing.

The offer is available to eligible customers who purchase a new or demonstrator Model Year 2025 (MY25) Geely EX5 between June 1 and June 30, 2025.

Lei Li, Geely Auto Australia Chief Executive Officer, said the EOFY offer is geared towards consumers who might be hesitant to make the jump to electric for their next car.

“More Australians are considering switching to electric – not just for sustainability but for lifestyle, technology, and cost-of-ownership reasons,” Li said.

“Our EOFY offer is all about giving buyers the green light to take the leap by first alleviating the hurdle of selling privately, and easing concerns around charging and servicing,” he added.
