Tesla Full Self-Driving covers one million Australian kilometres in under two weeks

In just over a week since it officially became available in Australia, Tesla drivers have racked up a combined one million kilometres of travel using the car maker’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) driver-assist technology.

The driver-assist system is claimed to be a ‘door-to-door’ self-driving technology that operates in both city and highway traffic, and can operate in parking situations or in areas where conditions may have changed (like roadworks), without the need for driver intervention.

Despite the advanced self-driving capabilities, Tesla’s official name for the system is Full Self-Driving (Supervised), with the driver required to remain alert and be prepared to resume control at any time, should the need arise.

Vehicles equipped with Tesla’s ‘Hardware 4’ technology and pre-purchased Full Self-Driving capability are able to utilise the newly unlocked software for use on public roads.

Australia and New Zealand became the first right-hand drive markets to enable Full Self-Driving (Supervised) from September 18th, 2025.

In its home market, Tesla first offered a limited launch of Full Self-Driving in October 2020 and expanded the program to more owners in November 2022.

Tesla vehicles globally are reported to have covered 3.6 billion miles (5.79 billion kilometres) using Full Self-Driving (Supervised) as of March 2025, with the unverified fsdmiles.com website reporting over 5.2 billion miles (8.39 billion km) globally, as of September 30, 2025.

The Australian one million kilometre milestone was reached on September 29th, just 11 days after the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system was made available to the public.
