Shell’s collectable model cars have a history of racing off the shelves, and the 2025 Motorsport Collection is about to hit Shell OTR and Reddy Express stores in Australia.
Shell has announced details of its 2025 Motorsport Collection scale model cars.
The series of eight licensed model cars will be released one per week over the coming weeks, with the promotion running until December 2, or while stocks last.
Based on past performance, the ‘while stocks last’ might be the major drawback for collectors, as the series has proven popular in previous years.
The first model, launched on October 1st, is the Ferrari F1 75 modelled after Ferrari’s 2022 Formula One car.
Other cars set to join the Ferrari include the Team Penske Indy Car, Forza IX Hydrogen, Team Penske Ford Mustang GT, Nissan Formula E Gen 3 Car, BMW M Hybrid V8, Hyundai i20 N Rally 1 Hybrid, and Shell V Power racing Team Ford Mustang GT.
Each of the roughly 1:41-scale model cars in the series can be purchased for $18 with any purchase of $20 or more on eligible fuel or in-store purchases (excluding products like gift cards, mobile phone top-ups, trailer hire, or tobacco products) at participating Shell OTR or Shell Reddy Express locations.
A Bluetooth Smart battery is available separately to transform the models into RC cars, priced at $8, the battery includes a USB charge cable and needs to be linked to the free Shell Racing app, available in the App Store or Google Play store.
With a battery and app connection, the model cars, which are equipped with an electric motor can then operate as remote control vehicles.
Drive contacted Shell to see if the new Bluetooth Smart batteries are cross-compatible with earlier releases, but had not received a reply at the time of publishing.
An empty collector's presentation tin will also be available for $20, allowing avid collectors to build out their own set.
For those who can't wait, the complete set, with all eight cars in the presentation tin and two Bluetooth Smart batteries, will be released in November, priced at $149 and available to purchase with an eligible fuel or in-store purchase over $20.
The complete set represents a saving of $31 compared to buying each car, the presentation tin, and two batteries separately.
