The price of the cheapest Mitsubishi ASX has climbed by more than $13,000 with the new European-made model, which brings a new powertrain and increased standard equipment help ease the sting.
The 2026 Mitsubishi ASX small SUV – now a rebadged Renault Captur – will carry a starting price more than 50 per cent higher than before when it arrives in showrooms later this year, with the three-variant line-up kicking off at $37,740 before on-road costs for the LS grade.
The most affordable version of the new ASX sits $13,250 upstream of the previous entry-level GS, which was $24,490 – excluding drive-away deals – and more than even the old, top-of-the-range Exceed grade ($35,240).
However, the 2026 ASX line-up comes with an automatic transmission standard across the board, which means prices are up $11,000 when comparing with last year’s $26,740 automatic GS base model.
The substantial price hike is accompanied by a longer list of standard features, as well as a more sophisticated turbocharged engine, and much fresher underpinnings than the outgoing, 14-year-old model.
The new ASX line-up then moves to $42,690 plus on-road costs for the mid-tier Aspire, and tops out at $46,490 for the top-spec Exceed – $11,250 pricier than the same grade last year.
All new versions are powered by a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, punching out 113kW/270Nm to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
This compares to the 110kW/197Nm offered by the 2.0-litre petrol engine offered in the outgoing ASX’s lower grades, and the 123kW/222Nm 2.4-litre engine found in the two high-end variants.
According to Mitsubishi, the new 1.3-litre engine is 16 per cent more fuel efficient and 19 per cent less pollutant when stacked up against the old 2.0-litre engine, returning respective figures of 6.4 litres per 100km and 142 grams per kilometre.
Standard features have also been improved in line with the price rise, with a 10.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, 17-inch alloy wheels, a 7.0-inch driver display, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, keyless entry, push-button start, a reversing camera, automatic wipers and headlights, and a suite of advanced driver safety systems.
Moving up to the Aspire nets buyers Google-based infotainment software, in-built satellite navigation, 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, rear privacy glass, interior ambient lighting, a heated steering wheel, wireless smartphone charger, and drive-mode selector.
Safety is also improved in the mid-tier ASX, with Mitsubishi adding front and side parking sensors, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind-spot monitoring.
It complements the standard driver attention alert, autonomous emergency braking, and lane departure warning.
To justify the spend to the top-spec ASX Exceed, Mitsubishi has added two-tone exterior paint, a panoramic sunroof, leather interior, heated front seats, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat over the Aspire grade.
Despite being built by Renault, the new ASX is still covered by Mitsubishi Australia’s 10-year conditional warranty – provided the vehicle is serviced at the brand's dealers for the full decade – and capped-price service program.
The 2026 Mitsubishi ASX will arrive in Australian showrooms from the fourth quarter (October – December) this year.
