The next seven-seat SUV from Chery will launch in Australlia next month, becoming its first full-size large SUV to rival the Toyota Kluger and Hyundai Palisade, with standard plug-in hybrid power.

It will be sold in a single Ultimate AWD specification, featuring a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine paired with three electric motors – two at the front and one at the rear – for a combined system output of 315kW and 580Nm.

With a 34kWh battery pack, the Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid has a 170-kilometre electric-only driving range rating on the less-stringent NEDC lab-test standard, among the longest of all plug-in hybrids currently offered in Australia.

Combined fuel consumption is rated at 1.4 litres per 100 kilometres, requiring 95-octane premium unleaded or higher.

Standard equipment includes 20-inch alloy wheels, a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-speaker Sony audio system, a head-up display, a 50-watt wireless phone charger, and a panoramic sunroof.

The Tiggo 9 will be the fourth seven-seat SUV in local Chery showrooms by the end of the year, joining the existing Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid PHEV, petrol-only Tiggo 8 Pro Max, and the inbound Tiggo X.

In China, the Tiggo 9 is instead sold as the Tiggo 8L, while the Tiggo 9 there is instead marketed as the Jaecoo J8 in Australia – but the latter model is sold with five seats, not seven, similar to a Mazda CX-70.

The Tiggo 9 is 90mm longer, 65mm wider and 24mm taller than the Tiggo 8 Pro Max with a 60mm-longer wheelbase, with its total dimensions measuring 4810mm long, 1925mm wide and 1729mm tall with a 2770mm wheelbase.

From October 7, 2025, to November 30, 2025, Chery has confirmed it will match any pre-order deposits placed for the Tiggo 9 in $500 increments to a maximum of $2000.

The 2026 Chery Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid will arrive in Australian showrooms in November.
