BMW has refreshed the i4 mid-size electric fastback in Australia. Now available in base-mode i4 eDrive 35 guise only, but with equipment boosted.
BMW has announced the details of the 2026 BMW i4 Gran Coupé electric vehicle.
The new i4 will come as an entry-level eDrive 35 grade only, with the previous eDrive 40 and M50 grades no longer available in Australia.
The price has risen by $1100, now starting from $88,900 plus on-road costs, but BMW has increased claimed driving range and added additional standard equipment.
The new price also keeps the i4 under the Luxury Car Tax threshold of $91,387 for fuel-efficient vehicles, although adding optional equipment (listed at the bottom of the page) can cross the threshold.
BMW’s move to drop the more powerful versions of the i4 comes after the line-up sold 3340 units from its introduction in 2022 until the end of September 2025, of which over 75 per cent, or 2523 units, were the eDrive 35 model.
Compared to the pre-update i4, the 2026 BMW i4 can cover an extra 18 kilometres of range, with an ADR range claim of 448km, thanks to new silicon-carbide semiconductor components that reduce energy consumption by 4.5 per cent.
The new i4 also arrives with revised exterior styling, including the addition of a standard M Sport package, previously not available for the eDrive 35 model.
The M Sport exterior comprises M Sport bumpers and sills, shadowline dark exterior trims, and 18-inch M light alloy wheels.
Other styling changes as part of the i4’s update include new headlights with revised daytime running light signatures, and a diamond-textured kidney grille.
The 2026 BMW i4 also adds an electrically-operated glass sunroof, front seat heating, lumbar support for the front seats, a new flat-bottomed M leather steering wheel with 12 o’clock marker, and M interior trims in brushed aluminium.
Tyre pressure monitoring and BMW’s new hub-mounted ‘tyre repair kit plus’ compressor and sealant system have also joined the standard features list.
As before the i4 eDrive 35 is equipped with a 210kW/410Nm single motor electric drivetrain powering the rear wheels.
Acceleration from 0-100km/h is unchanged at 6.0 seconds, and the 66.4kWh usable battery capacity is also unchanged, as are the 11kW AC and 180kW DC maximum charge rates.
In 2024, the i4 eDrive35 made up 82 per cent of total i4 sales (2062 total), and has so far constituted 93 per cent of 2025 i4 volume (718 volume). This saw the i4 outsell its petrol-powered 4 Series Gran Coupe counterpart by a factor of 8 (256 vs 2062) in 2024, and 38 (19 vs 718) so far in 2025. In terms of BMW's overall electric offering, the i4 makes up 17 per cent of the German brand's total EV sales.
The 2026 BMW i4 is available to order now, with customer deliveries to begin before the end of 2025. Full specifications and accessory details can be found listed below.
