After two strong months – thanks to high demand for the updated Model Y – Tesla deliveries have taken a hit amid a gap in vehicle arrivals.

A gap in shipments of new Model Y SUVs has pushed Tesla deliveries in Australia back into decline after its two best consecutive months in more than a year.
Data published by the Electric Vehicle Council overnight reports 917 new Tesla vehicles as delivered in July 2025, down 64.6 per cent on the same month last year, across 555 Model Ys and 362 Model 3 sedans.
It is down on the 4859 hand-overs reported for June 2025, and 3897 in May 2025, thanks to a rush of deliveries for the freshly-updated Model Y, the US electric-car giant's top seller.
However, it is believed the sales dip is not due to a sudden slump in demand, but rather correlates to a gap in arrivals of new stock from Tesla's factory in Shanghai, China.
Model Y deliveries are expected to pick up again this month, as the brand continues to fill orders placed since the vehicle opened for deposits in January, and reached local showrooms in April/May.
Since the start of this year, Tesla deliveries have totalled 15,063, down 41.4 per cent from 25,708 over the first seven months of 2024.
Despite the decline, it is expected to remain the top seller of electric cars in Australia year-to-date, but it may be overtaken by BYD, if its June 2025 tally of 3559 battery-electric deliveries is a guide.
The Model Y is down 20.8 per cent year-to-date, while the Model 3 is down 65.6 per cent, following high demand for the vehicle this time last year after an updated model arrived – and a continued slide in sedan sales.
Likely to assist demand is a series of discounts currently available across the Tesla range, including a $2000 bonus for customers trading in an eligible vehicle to order and take delivery of a new or demonstrator Model Y by September 30, 2025.
It is also offering $3000 discounts for customers ordering through a novated lease – or financed via Plenti or Westpac, considered "Tesla-approved financiers" – by late September, and delivered by September 30 (terms and conditions listed on the Tesla website).
Eligible customers can also have Enhanced Autopilot or Full Self-Driving software packages fitted to their current Tesla vehicle transferred to a new or demonstrator model delivered by the end of September.
