Ute buyers looking for a trail-ready vehicle have plenty of choice in the Australian market, with the Isuzu D-Max Blade joining the likes of the Nissan Navara Pro-4X Warrior and Ford Ranger Tremor as showroom-upgraded lifestyle machines.

The D-Max Blade, which launched in May 2025, has been tweaked by Walkinshaw Engineering, the team behind the previous-generation Volkswagen Amarok W580 and Mitsubishi Triton Xtreme, with a suspension upgrade, new wheels and Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac off-road tyres, plus a number of style and functionality upgrades.

There are unique fender flares, front and rear recovery points, a bright red steel bash plate, LED light bar, side steps, sports bar and bespoke ‘Blade’ decals and badges.

The 140kW/450Nm 4JJ3 3.0-litre turbo diesel engine is carried over from other D-Max variants, but the Blade sits 4mm higher than a regular D-Max thanks to the inclusion of 35mm Monroe MTV twin-tube shock absorbers and tweaks to the front and rear geometry.

Normally priced from $78,900 before on-road costs, the D-Max Blade is currently offered with an approximate $6000 price cut, at $77,990 drive away. This is $1000 more than the drive-away offer the car was launched at in May ($76,990), but the first time the car has seen a drive-away offer this financial year.

Other Isuzu D-Max variants benefit from drive-away pricing too, with the X-Terrain at $68,990 ($70,500 +ORC MSRP) and X-Rider at $57,990 ($59,500 +ORC MSRP). The offers are available at participating dealers until 31 August 2025, or while stocks last.

For context, the Navara Pro-4X Warrior automatic can currently be had for $68,990 drive away.

Like other D-Max models, the Blade features a six-year warranty, seven-year roadside assist and a five-year flat-price service schedule. Buyers can also insure directly with Isuzu for some added peace of mind when off the beaten track.

Driving the Blade in an off-road environment, Drive Off-Road Editor, Sam Purcell, noted: “The Isuzu D-Max is a solid and worthy choice in the competitive ute segment, even though there are competitors with more kit and polish. It feels smartly fit for purpose, and the changes made to the Blade specification don't upset the balance of ride quality, load carrying and general utility.”
