The Civic Type R has returned in a new blue hue, but Honda Australia is staying quiet on exactly how many will arrive Down Under.

Honda Australia will reopen order books for its pricier 2025 Civic Type R hot hatch from tomorrow, but not all potential customers are guaranteed to get one.

Existing carryover colours include Championship White, Crystal Black, and Sonic Grey.

However, despite the same 235kW/420Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, and six-speed manual gearbox sending drive to the front wheels, prices have increased $4900 from the last time the model was available to purchase.

It also makes the 2025 car $6400 pricier than when the current sixth-generation Type R, based on the 11th-generation Civic, launched in Australia in 2023.

Buyers can option a $5300 carbon-fibre spoiler, which matches Europe’s Ultimate Edition grade, sans the contrasting black roof, red-stripe decals, and lightweight door sills and centre console panel.

Said Ultimate Edition will be Europe’s final version of the current Civic Type R due to tightening emissions regulations, and limited to just 40 examples.

As a result, it is believed Honda’s current hot hatch will not remain in production much longer – for any market – and the brand’s local division has confirmed the 2025 Civic Type R will be limited in number based on allocation for our region.

However, Honda Australia declined to disclose the exact number of examples coming to local dealerships.

Without a number, it remains unclear if the 2025 Civic Type R will be rarer than something like the Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition, which was limited to just 25 examples in Australia, and saw customers selected by the car maker to purchase the hot hatch.

As what is expected to be Honda’s last purely petrol Civic hot hatch, interest in the ‘FL5’ Civic Type R has been immense, with 18 months’ worth of Australian allocation selling out in less than 24 hours when order books first opened in 2023 – a feat expected to be repeated tomorrow.

However, customers not near the front of the queue are expected to miss out on purchasing a 2025 Civic Type R, with expressions of interest registered to the Honda website – ahead of this week's announcement – likely to outstrip supply.

The brand will use a 'first-come, first-served' sales system, with Honda reaching out to potential customers to confirm their intent to buy a 2025 Civic Type R, moving down the list until stock is exhausted.

Despite the higher price tag, the limited supply is expected to drive up second-hand values of the ‘FL5’ Civic Type R as it becomes more sought after.
