Geely EX5 adds Android Auto and safety system customisations via over-the-air update

Geely has rolled out an over-the-air (OTA) update for its electric Geely EX5 SUV that brings new smartphone connectivity and a range of safety system customisations.

When the EX5 first launched in Australia in mid-2025, the infotainment system included Apple CarPlay connectivity but lacked Android Auto compatibility.

The latest update addresses the equipment shortfall by activating wired and wireless Android Auto for use on the EX5’s 15.4-inch infotainment display.

The software update also adds a driver profile shortcut to allow drivers to customise select safety assist features, drive modes, and brake regen settings with a single button press.

While safety systems will turn on each time the car is started, a driver profile allows customisation of the drive mode (Eco, Comfort, or Sport), and energy regeneration (low, medium, high, or auto).

In line with ANCAP parameters, safety assist tech will be active by default, but once the driver profile is set, owners will be able to toggle lane-keeping assist, emergency lane-keeping intervention, driver fatigue detection, and speed-limit alert settings to their chosen preset.

Activating the driver profile can be done by the steering wheel shortcut button or from the swipe-down shortcut menu on the infotainment screen.

The update adds other minor features as well, including a choice of three pedestrian-alerting low-speed Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) sound signatures dubbed Classic, Galactic, and Constellation.

The EX5 Inspire also gains a power tailgate control shortcut for the on-screen swipe-down menu, and both grades add a confirmation sound when changing drive modes.

Although not updated at the same time, owners of the Geely Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid are advised that a software update for that model is expected later in the first quarter of this year, suggesting availability before the end of March.

Like the EX5, the Starray EM-i launched without Android Auto, and is expected to get a similar array of tech tweaks, although Geely has not yet confirmed what’s in store for the PHEV model.
