Ford Ranger Super Duty Wildtrak under consideration as specced-up workhorse

There could be a Ford Ranger Super Duty with more standard kit – and corresponding bump in price – in future, if there is appetite in the market.

Ford is not ruling out more expensive variants of the Ranger Super Duty in the future, and is open to a higher trim level of the heavy-duty ute if there is demand.

Ranger Super Duty engineering manager Justin Capicchiano left the door open for higher trim levels and prices in Ford's new workhorse ute line-up, above the inbound XLT variant due to cost more than today's $89,990 dual-cab chassis.

“That’s the exciting part of me being in this program, I don’t know where it’s going to stop. We really want to see where the market takes it,” Capicchiano said.

Using a bespoke heavy-duty chassis and suspension setup, the Ford Ranger Super Duty is currently priced from $82,990 plus on-road costs for a single-cab model, rising up to $89,990 for a dual-cab chassis.

These high prices don’t offer a lot of creature comforts on the inside, however, with cloth seats and manual adjustment, as well as a cab-chassis format, which means buyers will need to pay for a tray, canopy or service body to be fitted.

Instead, the higher asking price of the Ranger Super Duty pays for the heavy-duty chassis, upgraded suspension and driveline, 33-inch tyres and locking differentials front and rear.

A better-equipped XLT variant is due in 2026, but there is still space for an even better specified Wildtrak grade – possibly in excess of $100,000 – to appeal to private buyers.

When asked whether something like a Ranger Super Duty Wildtrak is feasible, Capicchiano said:

“That’s the question that we’ll look to the markets to help us answer, right? We will stop where they want us to stop, I think that’s the key thing with this product.

“Right now Super Duty is one spec, but we’ll figure out where we want to go.”
