Updated SUV arrives with new look

The updated 2026 Nissan X-Trail has arrived in Australian showrooms with tweaked styling, new features, updated technology, and a price rise of $1150 on every model grade.

Announced last year – but now in dealers, alongside full specifications – the 2026 X-Trail brings an exterior and interior update to Nissan's Toyota RAV4 rival after about three years in showrooms.

Styling changes include a new front fascia with an enlarged grille and restyled bumper, plus a revised rear bumper, new 18- and 19-inch wheel designs on high-grade models, and the addition of Deep Ocean Blue and Everest White paint.

Inside, visual revisions are limited to a new steering wheel hub across the line-up, plus a new Chestnut upholstery colour on the Ti-L, replacing tan, and black dashboard and door trim on versions with black seats, replacing brown.

A 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is now standard on all variants, succeeding the base ST grade's 8.0-inch screen with wired connectivity.

NissanConnect technology has been added, with a phone app that includes vehicle health reports, theft notifications, and service alerts.

Newly added to the entry-level ST grade is a wireless phone charging pad and rain-sensing wipers, previously limited to the ST-L and up, and Ti and up, respectively.

ST-L versions gain leather-accented upholstery – meaning part-genuine, part-synthetic trim – in place of full synthetic leather-look upholstery, as well as an eight-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, plus two-way electric lumbar.

The 360-degree camera already standard on the ST-L and up has been updated with a 3D view, plus a transparent bonnet mode that allows objects typically obscured from the driver's seat by the car's front end to be seen.

New on the Ti are the Ti-L's sunshades built into the rear door panels, while 20-inch wheels on the top-of-the-range Ti-L e-Power have switched back to standard equipment after becoming optional during stock shortages in recent years.

Petrol-only variants retain a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 135kW and 244Nm, matched with a continuously-variable automatic transmission (CVT), and front- or all-wheel drive.

Claimed fuel consumption in mixed driving is rated at 7.4 litres per 100 kilometres in front-wheel-drive variants, or 7.8L/100km in all-wheel-drive variants, which offer five or seven seats, depending on the model grade.

The e-Power hybrid uses an unchanged 106kW/250Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine as a generator for two electric motors, 150kW/330Nm front and 100kW/195Nm rear, and a small battery pack.

Nissan claims a combined output of 157kW, and fuel consumption in mixed driving of 6.1L/100km, with all-wheel drive as standard.

The e-Power's petrol engine does not drive the wheels directly, but rather generates electricity for the electric motors that spin the wheels.

As part of the 2026 update, Nissan has extended servicing intervals across the X-Trail line-up from 12 months or 10,000km, whichever comes first, to 12 months/15,000km, now matching the industry standard.

The 2026 Nissan X-Trail is in Australian showrooms now.
