 Entry-level grade axed in Australia

The most affordable version of Omoda Jaecoo's first model in Australia has been discontinued, less than 12 months after it launched.

Omoda Jaecoo has axed the entry-level Core variant of its Jaecoo J7 mid-size SUV, which was priced from $34,990 drive-away, leaving two petrol grades and two plug-in hybrid grades.

The 2026 Jaecoo J7 now starts from $37,990 drive-away for the front-wheel-drive Track petrol, and continues to top out at $47,990 drive-away for the SHS Summit front-wheel-drive PHEV.

However, until February 28, 2026, Omoda Jaecoo is offering $3000 cashback across the Model Year 2025 (MY25) Jaecoo J7 range, bringing the Track down to the outgoing Core's $34,990 price point.

Compared to the J7 Core, the Track adds dual-zone climate control, an eight-speaker Sony audio system, a 50-watt wireless smartphone charger, heated front seats, and front parking sensors.

It is also fitted with an electric tailgate, a 360-degree camera, rain-sensing wipers, electric child safety locks, acoustic windscreen glass, a driver's knee airbag, illuminated vanity mirrors, and ambient lighting.

All J7 petrol grades feature a 137kW/275Nm 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine matched to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The all-wheel-drive J7 Ridge adds 19-inch alloy wheels, a full-size spare, a larger 14.8-inch touchscreen, a head-up display, a panoramic sunroof, synthetic leather upholstery, and ventilated front seats.

Other additional features above the Track include driver's seat memory, a heated steering wheel, a built-in dashcam, red brake calipers, puddle lights, alloy pedal covers, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.

Meanwhile, the plug-in hybrid Jaecoo J7 SHS pairs a 105kW/215Nm 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with a 150kW/310Nm electric motor and an 18.3kWh battery pack, rated for a 90-kilometre WLTP electric-only driving range.

Plug-in hybrid versions support 91-octane unleaded petrol, while the petrol grades require 95-octane premium unleaded.

A five-star ANCAP safety rating also applies to the J7 SHS plug-in hybrid, but it has yet to be applied to petrol versions.

The J7 SHS Track variant was introduced in late 2025, reducing the cost of the plug-in hybrid by $4000.

Standard equipment is similar to the petrol Track, albeit with the removal of its 50-watt wireless smartphone charger, ambient lighting, electric child safety lock, spare wheel, and eight Sony speakers.

In contrast, it has larger 19-inch alloy wheels with aero covers, along with ventilated front seats and a steering wheel column-mounted gear selector.

The SHS Summit is similar to the petrol Ridge in specification, excluding its red brake calipers and features related to its all-wheel-drive system.

All Omoda Jaecoo models are covered by an eight-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, including the high-voltage components of its hybrid and electric vehicles.
