As competition mounts, South Korea’s KGM – formerly SsangYong – tweaks equipment on the Musso dual-cab ute to fend off Chinese rivals.
The KGM Musso ute from South Korea – formerly sold under the SsangYong brand – has been updated with new features and revised styling on select models.
Prices have risen by $2500 to $5500, depending on the variant, with the Musso range now starting from $42,500 drive-away (up $2500) for the entry-level, short-wheelbase Musso ELX.
The long-wheelbase XLV body – available across KGM's ute range – is priced from $44,000 drive-away in ELX trim.
New items for the 2026 model year include electric power steering for short-wheelbase models, allowing the fitment of lane-keep assist technology for the first time.
However, it is only available on the regular Musso, leaving the XLV grades to continue with hydraulic power steering and a lane departure warning only. Adaptive cruise control tech offered in overseas markets remains unavailable.
Also new is reach adjustment for the steering wheel (joining tilt adjustment), silver roof rails, and for the regular-length ELX variant, HID headlights – with no change to the ELX XLV's halogen projector headlights.
The Musso Advance is the new name for the previous Musso Adventure trim level.
Pricing starts from $46,500 for the Musso Advance, or $48,000 for the Advance XLV, both up $3000.
Styling changes include a black grille, black 18-inch alloy wheels, HID headlights on both short and XLV bodies, and rear privacy tint.
The interior adds dual-zone climate control and a heated steering wheel, while safety equipment now includes blind-spot monitoring with safe exit warning, lane-change collision warning, and rear cross-traffic alert.
These safety items were previously exclusive to the range-topping Musso Ultimate until now, which, for 2026, is priced over $50,000 for the first time – but now includes the contents of the Luxury Pack optional on earlier models.
The Musso Ultimate starts at $51,500 or $53,000 for the Ultimate XLV, while prices have risen by $5500 compared to the 2025 Musso.
The standard inclusion of the $3000 Luxury Pack equipment brings the like-for-like price difference to $2500.
Styling changes for the Ultimate include a more aggressive front bumper with a matte black lower section, reshaped headlights, and a gloss black octagonal grille.
Inside, gloss black trims have been added across part of the dashboard and steering wheel control surrounds.
Items previously part of the Luxury Pack include dual-zone climate control (now on Advance and Ultimate), heated front and rear seats, premium leather seat trim, a sunroof, eight-way power-adjustable front seats, and driver’s seat powered lumbar adjustment.
The Musso Ultimate also now features LED headlights, and sequential front indicators.
Carry-over equipment across the range includes a 12.3-inch infotainment system with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, passive cruise control, and front and rear parking sensors.
Mechanically, the Musso range is unchanged, with a 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine, six-speed automatic transmission, and low-range part-time 4x4 with a locking rear differential.
Outputs for the Musso are rated at 133kW and 400Nm, while the Musso XLV keeps power the same, but adds 20Nm.
The Musso ELX short-wheelbase, and all Advance and Ultimate models come with coil-spring rear suspension, while the ELX XLV is equipped with rear leaf springs.
The ELX XLV boasts the highest payload of the range at 1010kg, while the short wheelbase ELX and Advance are capped at 790kg. All grades come with a 3500kg braked towing capacity.
