The Hyundai Tucson has followed its Kona sibling in Australia, with its 1.6-litre turbo-petrol axed, as RAV4-rivalling hybrid versions continue to grow in popularity.

- 2026 Hyundai Tucson pricing and specifications
- 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol variants axed in Australia
- Price cuts of up to $2500 for carryover grades; Digital Key functionality
- Priced from $38,100 before on-road costs
The 2026 Hyundai Tucson family SUV line-up has been slashed from 17 to nine variants in Australia, with its non-hybrid 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine axed.
Prices have been cut between $1000 and $2500 for carryover grades, which heavily focus on hybrid with only non-turbo 2.0-litre petrol variants remaining in the base Tucson and the Tucson Elite.
Hyundai has also deleted one hybrid variant, with the front-wheel-drive Tucson N Line no longer available, leaving the N Line styling pack as only offered for the Elite and Premium hybrids.
Starting from $38,100 before on-road costs – down $1000 – the Tucson line-up now tops out below $60,000, at $59,600 for the Premium N Line Hybrid AWD, $1500 less than before.
Entry-level Tucsons are now fitted with 17-inch alloy wheels, down from 18 inches, and Digital Key 2 functionality to lock, unlock and start with a compatible smartphone, while all grades are available to order in a new Ecotronic Grey colour, and Ecotronic Grey Matte for the N Line.
The 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine was recently axed from the Kona small SUV in Australia, though it will remain available in the current i30 Sedan N Line.
Turbo-petrol variants were previously available across the Tucson range, with front-wheel-drive versions launched in 2024 for the N Line, Elite and Elite N Line, along with the all-wheel-drive grades offered since the current generation's arrival in 2021.
The Kia Sportage, a twin-under-the-skin to the Hyundai Tucson, has retained its 1.6-litre turbo in Australia, now matched to an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission rather than the seven-speed dual-clutch that remained in the Tucson.
However, fewer hybrid versions of the Sportage are offered in Australia – limited to SX and GT-Line variants in front- and all-wheel-drive – while the Kia continues to offer 2.0-litre turbo-diesel power.
Hybrid versions of the Tucson accounted for 51 per cent of sales in Australia between June 2024 and July 2025, compared to 49 per cent for non-hybrid grades, including the 2.0-litre petrol (32 per cent) and 1.6-litre turbo-petrol (17 per cent).
Australia's best-selling hybrid vehicle and most-popular midsize SUV, the RAV4, went hybrid-only in Australia in mid-2024, with a plug-in hybrid version confirmed with a new-generation model due in the first half of next year.
The 2026 Hyundai Tucson will arrive in Australian showrooms next month.
