Audi Australia has nearly doubled its Q6 e-tron electric SUV line-up with the introduction of the Sportback body style, which offers improved driving range but less boot space and a higher asking price.

Opening at $99,900 before on-road costs, the Q6 Sportback e-tron shares the same position as the base Q6 e-tron SUV, and also features an identical 83kWh battery (75.8kWh gross) and a rear-drive single motor set-up as the SUV.

Both the entry-level Q6 Sportback e-tron and Q6 e-tron SUV feature a 185kW/450Nm output, rising to 215kW with launch control.

As a result, the Q6 Sportback e-tron can accelerate from 0-100km/h in as little as 7.0 seconds – matching the SUV.

Mirroring the Q6 e-tron in equipment, the Sportback versions features 19-inch allow wheels, a 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, tri-zone climate control, heated front and rear seats, and an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster.

The only difference between the two, aside from body style, is the Sportback misses out on the SUVs roof rails for a sleeker look.

Stepping up to the Q6 Sportback quattro adds an additional electric motor for all-wheel-drive tractions, increasing outputs to 285kW and 275Nm/580Nm front/rear.

The battery pack also increases to 100kWh (94.9kWh gross).

The 0-100km/h run is a claimed 5.9 s, which matches its Q6 e-tron quattro sibling, but its $127,500 asking price is $5000 more despite sharing the same equipment list.

The flagship Q6 Sportback for now is the SQ6 Sportback, priced at $156,400 – or a $5000 premium over the SUV.

The SQ6 version increases power to 360kW, or 380kW with launch control, cutting the 0-100km/h time to a claimed 4.3s.

Again, the Sportback mirrors the SUV in equipment, and no driving range claim has been stated for the new model, but it is expected to better the SQ6 e-tron SUV’s 568km range number.

All Q6 Sportback e-tron models share the same underpinnings as its SUV brethren, meaning an 800-volt architecture with a maximum charge rate of 270kW that can recoup 0-80 per cent of the battery in a claimed 21 minutes.

Of note, the entry-level Q6 Sportback e-tron has a maximum charge rate of 225kW like its SUV equivalent, while the quattro and SQ6 grades unlock the full 270kW capability.

There is also no sloped-roof version of the rear-drive e-tron Performance.

Audi Australia is yet to confirm the driving range of each individual Q6 Sportback e-tron grade, but promises that the better drag coefficient will yield longer driving ranges from the same-sized battery and equipment.

For reference, the Q6 e-tron, Q6 e-tron quattro, and SQ6 e-tron feature driving range ratings of 462km, 542km, and 568km respectively, with Audi Australia promising "the Q6 Sportback e-tron to achieve a range of up to 585 km (WLTP)".

The sportier body style also loses 15 litres of volume in the boot due to the more aggressively-sloped roofline, offering 511L of storage space.

This figure is increased with the rear seats folded, as the Sportback offers 1373L while the SUV has 1529L.

However, the Sportback still retains the 64L front boot storage as the SUV.

Audi says the Q6 Sportback range is arriving “shortly” to local showrooms.
