25 years since the Cross Country nameplate was first applied to a Volvo, the brand’s newest model gains similar optical off-road cues in a more city-friendly package.

Volvo has announced that the electric EX30 Cross Country SUV will join its Australian line-up, priced from $69,990 plus on-road costs.
The EX30 Cross Country slots into the EX30 range between the EX30 Single Motor Extended Range Ultra, from $66,29, and the EX30 Twin Motor Performance Ultra, from $71,290.
The EX30 Cross Country offers mild off-road capabilities with modifications like a 19mm raised running height and larger diameter tyres, with the option of an 18-inch wheel and all-terrain tyre package.
Suspension has been retuned to go with the added right height, with a softer ride in place to accommodate use on rough terrain.
The EX30 Cross Country retains the Twin Motor all-wheel-drive powertrain of the EX30 Performance, with the same 315kW and 543Nm combined outputs.
The 64kWh battery capacity is also shared with other EX30 models; however the driving range rating drops from the 460km WLTP of the EX30 Performance to 427km in the Cross Country.
Volvo claims the EX30 Cross Country can recharge from 10-80 per cent in 26 minutes on a compatible 135kW DC charger, with 11kW AC home charging also supported.
Styling changes see the EX30 Cross Country adopt a unique look, with front and rear skidplates, wheel arch extensions, and a dark finish for the front end panel and tailgate applique.
The front end also features a stylised topographical map of the Kebnekaise mountain range in Arctic Sweden, with longitude and latitude coordinates that point to the Toppstugan emergency accommodation cabin – Sweden’s highest building.
Volvo has also committed to lifestyle support for the new Cross Country variant, promising “access to accessories, gear and information aimed at giving you the full potential to explore the great outdoors,” as part of the ownership experience.
A limited list of equipment for the new model has been announced, including rear privacy tint, a fixed panoramic glass roof, power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats and steering wheel, and wireless phone charging.
The Cross Country shares the regular EX30’s 12.3-inch touchscreen and comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Google built in, digital key compatibility, Harman Kardon premium audio with a soundbar in place of traditional speakers across the dash.
