Hybrid power is on the way for one of the country's top-selling commercial vans, with an electric version due later in the year.
The Hyundai Staria Load commercial van will add the options of hybrid and electric power as part of a styling and technology update due later this year.
The Staria Load mirrors the passenger Staria with revised exterior styling, including an updated horizontal front grille insert, as well as an upgraded interior with a larger 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, keyless entry, and push-button start.
Prices start from $49,990 plus on-road costs for the entry-level diesel, up from $47,740, while the flagship hybrid-only Staria Load Premium is $61,240 plus on-roads, an increase of $8500 over the current Premium diesel.
Hyundai has become the first car brand in Australia to launch a 'plug-less' hybrid van, with the Staria Load Hybrid to join the line-up in June ahead of an electric model in the second half of 2026.
The five-seat 'Crew' version of the Staria Load will not be available for the updated model; all grades are now only available with two seats.
Standard is a 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine sending 130kW/430Nm through an eight-speed automatic transmission, or a new 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol hybrid powertrain producing a combined 180kW, with a six-speed transmission.
The diesel claims fuel consumption of 7.0 litres per 100 kilometres, while the hybrid is likely to be similar or higher than the 5.8L/100km quoted by the Kia Carnival Hybrid with the same drivetrain.
Hyundai claims a 2500kg braked towing capacity for the diesel, a 4935-litre cargo area volume and a 997kg payload.
The hybrid is not rated to tow, but it gains a slightly higher 1039kg payload.
The electric Staria Load will be powered by a 160kW single electric motor driving the front wheels, with an 84kWh battery, a 2000kg braked towing capacity and the same cargo area volume as the diesel and hybrid.
Hybrid variants build on the diesel's feature list with automatic single-zone climate control, while the EV will add a shift-by-wire gear selector and a larger 12.3-inch digital intrument cluster as standard.
The 2027 Hyundai Staria Load diesel is due in showrooms in April 2026, while the hybrid is expected in June, and the EV version is due in the second half of the year, with pricing to be confirmed.
