Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) power will join the regular-style 2025 GWM Haval H6 range when the new-look, better-equipped model arrives in showrooms mid-month, priced from $35,990 drive-away.

The cost of entry into the Haval H6 range has climbed by up to $5000 with the axing of the base Premium, listed for $33,990 drive-away, or $30,990 drive-away as part of a run-out special.

The models that remain are between $1000 and $2000 cheaper than their previous, regular price – but $2000 to $4000 dearer than the outgoing special offers, listed as a 2024 plate clearance sale.

Facelifted for 2025, GWM's mid-size family SUV has gained new styling, an upgraded interior with a larger touchscreen, and more power.

The outgoing Haval H6's choice of four petrol-only and two hybrid variants has been replaced by two petrol-only grades, two hybrids, and two plug-in hybrids, the latter offered on the Ultra flagship only.

Styling changes include a new front bumper with reshaped grille and vertical daytime-running lights, tweaked black wheel-arch cladding, new 19-inch black alloy wheels across the range, and the deletion of chrome trim.

Rear-end changes include new, separated LED tail-lights, GWM branding to replace the central 'HAVAL' badge, and a revised lower rear bumper.

Inside, the dashboard has been reworked with a larger 14.6-inch touchscreen across the range, up from 10.25-inch or 12.3-inch, running updated software claimed to be backed by increased processing power.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now supported, but there is still no embedded satellite navigation.

The gear selector has been moved to the steering column to free up space in the new centre console, including a "dedicated" wireless phone charger, while there is a new cream-coloured upholstery option on the Ultra grade.

Reach adjustment has finally been added to the steering column – plus a thicker steering wheel rim with new indentations – while the instrument cluster graphics are new, and the 360-degree camera gains a 'transparent chassis' view.

Standard in the updated Haval H6 is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 170kW and 380Nm – up 20kW/50Nm – matched with a new nine-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, replacing a seven-speed unit, and front-wheel drive.

GWM claims fuel consumption of 7.4 litres per 100 kilometres – unchanged from the previous model – with the petrol all-wheel-drive option deleted.

Hybrid power carries over with a 110kW/230Nm 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, 130kW/300Nm electric motor and "dedicated hybrid transmission", for 179kW and 530Nm combined, and front-wheel drive.

New for 2025 is the plug-in hybrid, which uses a 110kW/240Nm version of the hybrid's 1.5-litre petrol engine, plus electric motors, to produce 240kW and 540Nm combined.

They are matched with a 19.09kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery for 106km of claimed electric-only driving range in NEDC lab testing, 1106km of hybrid range, and claimed fuel use of 1.0L/100km.

All-wheel drive is optional on the plug-in hybrid, with a 110kW/240Nm engine, 80kW/170Nm front electric motor, and 150kW/350Nm rear motor for 268kW and 760Nm combined.

GWM claims an electric-only driving range for the AWD plug-in hybrid of 100km in NEDC testing, plus a slightly lower hybrid range of 1043km, and a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 4.8 seconds using launch control.

Using GWM's latest-generation plug-in hybrid technology, marketed as Hi4, it is said to DC fast charge from 30 to 80 per cent in 28 minutes at up to 34kW, or AC home charge from 15 to 100 per cent in "less than three hours" at up to 6.6kW.

The 2025 GWM Haval H6 is due in showrooms later this month.
